The Irving Symphony Orchestra Presents: “The Unicorn’s Birthday®” A Sensory-Friendly Symphonic Celebration for Families with Special Needs

June 25, 2025

On June 25, 2025, the Irving Symphony Orchestra proudly presented “The Unicorn’s Birthday®”—a magical, music-filled event created especially for children with special needs and their families. This delightful, sensory-friendly concert was designed to spark imagination, joy, and wonder in a warm and welcoming environment.

A birthday celebration like no other, the concert featured beautiful symphonic music, whimsical narration, engaging on-stage activities, fun sound effects, charming projected visuals, and gentle audience participation—all tailored to be inclusive and accessible for neurodiverse audiences.

We were honored to collaborate with Grammy®-nominated and award-winning composer Bob Singleton, whose full-orchestra composition was crafted specifically for this audience. Elements such as intensity, pace, pitch, and volume were thoughtfully adapted to create a soothing and positive orchestral experience.

The event was a resounding success! Both younger and older attendees—and their families—were delighted by the rich, melodic sounds of the orchestra as they followed the enchanting birthday story unfold through music.

The Irving Symphony Orchestra is deeply committed to making music accessible to all members of our community. With your continued support, we look forward to bringing more inclusive and inspiring performances to life!
